A WHITTINGTON church is inviting residents to a ‘gift day’ to raise funds for its Elizabethan Room appeal.

St Philip and St James will be hosting free tea, coffee, light refreshments and a craft stall on Saturday (October 24).

Residents can learn more about the plans for the Elizabethan Room and can enjoy a display of Whittington CE Primary School children’s work from a recent workshop in the church.

The event runs from 10am to 3pm.




 

A WORCESTER charity is inviting residents to take on the ‘Chaser’ at its quiz night.


New Hope – a charity helping children with disabilities and complex health needs – is hosting the quiz night on Saturday (October 24) at Worcester Warriors Sixways Stadium, with special guest Shaun Wallace from ITV’s The Chase.

Tickets cost £15 per person and includes lasagne, salad and garlic bread.

CITY residents are being invited to celebrate Worcester’s only independent arts centre.

Worcester Arts Workshop will be opening its doors to the community at an open day on Saturday (October 24) for them to immerse themselves in art, pottery and mask workshops, music, food in Café Bliss and live performances.

A WORCESTER church has teamed up with a city pub to hold a family fun evening.

Holy Trinity and St Matthew’s Church and the Punch Bowl in Ronkswood are hosting a skittles evening next Friday (October 30), to raise funds for the church.

Tickets cost £4 per person and includes a ploughmans supper.

WORCESTER residents are being invited to learn about 17th century medicine and witchcraft.

The supernatural event will take place next Friday (October 30) in the chapel at the University of Worcester.

The presentation explores the lost world of medicine and witchcraft in the age of the English Civil War, with a lecture by the university’s Dr Darren Oldridge, a specialist in early modern religious history.

The event runs from 7.30pm to 9pm.

 

A PROJECT has been launched to help people in Worcester with autism.

The Worcestershire All Age Autism Strategic was launched on Thursday, October 8 at the city’s Countryside Centre, with the vision of allowing people with autism to live fulfilling and rewarding lives.

The scheme has been developed with the Worcestershire Autism Strategy Partnership Group, which consists of adults with autism spectrum conditions (ASC), family carers, health and social care professionals and representatives of voluntary sector organisations in the county.

The outcome is to help people with ASC access universal services they need to allow them to be independent and achieve their potential.

 

 

A FIRST World War archive workshop will take place at a Worcester library.

The Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service will host the workshop on Friday November, 6 at The Hive, to help people use archive sources to research their family and local history.

The workshop will cover resources from 1914 to 1918 held in the archives, explaining how to use them to find out more about Worcestershire, the battlefront and those who served and fought in the First World War.

The event runs from 10am to 12.30pm and costs £8 per person.

A WORCESTER church is inviting the community to come together for its choir event.

St Martins Church will be hosting conductor Stephen Shellard and organ player Christopher Allsop along with the Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir on Saturday, November 7.

AN ONLINE course launched in Worcester to improve communication and care for people living with dementia has been nominated for a national award.

Stand By Me – developed by the University of Worcester’s Association for Dementia Studies – has been shortlisted for an E-Learning Award in the category of ‘Excellence in the Production of Learning Content – not for profit sector’.

The eight other contenders include Channel 4, The College of Policing and The Home Office.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday November, 25.
