New school for north of city is a step closer

A NEW primary school for the north of Worcester has moved a step closer after a city trust made it through to the final stages of the application process.

Education chiefs at The Rivers CE Academy Trust will face a final interview at the Department for Education, to determine whether they will be given the green light.

The trust’s application for a new school for children aged from three years old to 11 was submitted in September 2016, with a vision of opening a school in the north Worcester area by September 2018.

A shortage of places was the reason behind the application and should they win approval from the Government, the new school will be called North Worcester Primary School and replicate how Northwick Manor Primary School operates.

The school will take its first 60 reception pupils in September 2018, reaching its full potential of 420 pupils of primary age over seven years.

Kate Brunt, CEO from Rivers CofE Academy Trust said: “We are delighted that the DfE have recognised the clear evidence of need locally in North Worcester.

“I would also like to thank the parents and the local community with the overwhelming support we have received so far.

“At Rivers we understand that our parents want more than just academic achievement.

“Our values and ethos allows us, as a trust, to give our children the right tools to live with and prepare them for the next stage of their life,” she added.

The Rivers CE Academy Trust was formed in October 2014 and is a group of seven ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ schools spread across Worcestershire; all varying in size, economic, social backgrounds and religion

Northwick Manor Primary, St Clement’s CE Primary, St Peter’s CE First, Cranham Primary, Cutnall Green CE First, Great Witley CE Primary, and Heronswood Primary all make up the trust.
