New mobile phone app is just the ticket!

Worcester Editorial 10th Mar, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

BUS PASSENGERS travelling on First Worcester are now able to use their mobile phones as tickets.

The company launched the scheme today (Monday) meaning customers can now buy their tickets online and simply show the driver their mobile phone screens.

First Worcester is one of the only operators in the area to use the scheme and bosses hope it will make it easier for people to buy tickets, remove the worry of not having the correct change as well as speed up boarding times.

Nigel Eggleton, managing director of First Midlands, said he also hoped it would encourage more people to travel by bus.

“I’m proud that First Worcester will be one of the first bus operators in the area to give customers the opportunity of using their mobile phones as bus tickets,” he added.

“It is an innovative scheme that I’m confident will be welcomed by our customers, but I hope too it will encourage new people to use our services and infrequent customers to get on board more often.”

First Worcester is holding a launch event for the new scheme in the town centre tomorrow (Thursday) from 10am until 2pm.

The company’s mascot, Freddie the Frog, and the marketing team will be giving demonstrations and handing out leaflets to customers.
