New database set to help volunteers

Worcester Editorial 8th Dec, 2016   0

THE DIOCESE of Worcester has launched a new online database for those looking to volunteer in the criminal justice sector.

Working alongside the University of Worcester, the Diocese of Worcester Criminal Justice Affairs Group’s ‘Volunteering for Justice’ project gives details of a range of different voluntary opportunities across Worcestershire, including in victim support and offender rehabilitation.

The database was established following a conference in the city in November 2015, which identified that many people who wished to offer their skills on a voluntary basis in criminal justice related areas, often found it difficult to identify available opportunities.

Voluntary posts available include working on helpdesks, helping with befriending schemes, mentoring and working with restorative justice projects.

Paul West, Bishop Graham Usher’s advisor on criminal justice issues and a member of the diocesan group, said: “We’re not aware of anything similar to ‘Volunteering for Justice’ having been published before.

“It’s a great resource for anyone who is interested in supporting the criminal justice sector by offering some time to help out. There are a huge range of opportunities on the site covering all areas of the diocese.”
