FAMILIES are set to have a wheely good time at the Museum of Royal Worcester this summer as it celebrates its 275th anniversary.

It is putting on a programme of hands-on activities to mark the founding of the first Worcester porcelain manufactory, including a Family Clay Experience Day on Wednesday August 5, daily Paint Your Own Pottery and a Summer Wonderland Family Day on Wednesday August 12.

Inspired by the curious world of Alice in Wonderland, there will be a wide range of Wonderland-inspired activities including designing and decorating a Mad Hatter hat, creating curious clay treats inspired by Alice’s tea table, decorating craft teapots, storytelling sessions, tea-tasting of unusual speciality teas, and pottery painting potion bottles, hearts, toadstools and caterpillars.

There will be tea party games on the OMI interactive floor projector and a collaborative workshop led by Worcestershire Poet Laureate Jay Rose Ana, called ‘The Secret Life of a Teacup’.

Visitors can also watch live flower-modelling demonstrations by former Royal Worcester artist Avril Pulley.

Museum director Kate Travers said: “This summer we’re inviting families to discover Worcester porcelain through creativity and hands-on experiences. Whether you’re joining us for our Family Clay Experience Day, painting pottery during the holidays or stepping into Wonderland for our family celebration, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. As we celebrate 275 years of Worcester porcelain, we’re delighted to offer new ways for visitors to connect with our collections, heritage and creative traditions.”
