A STATE-of-the-art new surgery in St John’s opened its doors to patients for the first time today (Monday).

The St John’s House Medical Centre is part of the the multi-million pound University Park Development off Bromyard Road.

The £4.5million scheme, which has been delivered by health care developer Prime and Worcester-based design firm One, replaces the former St John’s House Surgery.

As well as ten GP consultation rooms, the centre offers five treatment rooms, a phlebotomy clinic, an on-site pharmacy and a large number of dedicated staff.

Dr Mark Young, project leader and senior partner at St John’s House Surgery, said he was delighted to open the centre which is set to benefit about 13,000 patients in the south of the city.

“It’s a superb facility and will enable our patients to receive the same levels of high quality care but in a modern, state-of-the-art building,” he said.

“As a training and teaching practice, we’re committed to learning and development and the centre will give us the space and dedicated facilities to work more closely with GP trainees and students, encouraging the next generation of doctors.”

James Lawrence, associate director at One, added: “St Johns House Medical Centre has been a truly collaborative project for us – we have used our in-house expertise in all aspects of the building from its structure and services, to the interior design and landscaping.

“We worked closely with the GPs from St John’s House Surgery and patient groups from the outset to discuss ideas for the new building, and we are confident that we have been able to deliver a facility the staff and patients will be happy to use for many years to come.”
