MP opens new mental health ward

WORCESTER’S new mental health ward has been officially opened by the city’s MP.

Robin Walker cut the ribbon at the £800,000 Holt Ward, based at Newtown Hospital, last Friday (June 27).

The 18-bed unit, run by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, replaces the hospital’s previous Berkeley Ward.

The bright and airy ward also offers a large garden, which is now possible due to its ground floor location.

Mr Walker said: “On previous visits to the Holt Ward I was hugely impressed by the care I saw.

“I am in awe of the dedicated staff who work in the mental health sector providing such vital support to people at times of great need.

“However, there were challenges with the previous location up on the first floor and with limited outside space.

The new ward looks fantastic, with top of the range facilities, a tranquil garden, and different views from every window, both patients and staff deserve this improved facility and I have no doubt it will improve the patient experience.”
