MP hails positive step for school’s safe road crossing

LITTLE learners at Lower Broadheath Primary School are celebrating after a long-running campaign to secure a safe road crossing took a step forward when highways chiefs confirmed it was feasible.

Malvern MP Harriett Baldwin has led the fight for safer roads and a new road crossing in Lower Broadheath for more than three years and she met with Worcestershire County Councillor Alan Amos to discuss progress on this proposal.

The councillor, who is in charge of highways and transport, confirmed the crossing is feasible and he will work with local councillor Scott Richardson Brown to identify funding for the project.

Mrs Baldwin visited Lower Broadheath Primary School last summer to hear how pupils face extra challenges crossing the busy main road outside their school.

“The main road through Lower Broadheath has been a significant concern over recent years and with major housing development nearby, there will be extra heavy traffic passing through the village,” the West Worcestershire MP said.

“I have directly asked the county council if this crossing can be funded from contributions from housing developers and individual councillors have access to funds to support local projects.

“I am pleased that this new crossing has cleared the first hurdle and I have encouraged the highways team to try and find a way to secure the funding as swiftly as possible.

“It is a busy road and likely to get busier so now is the time to act.”
