CREATIVE care home residents joined forces with a local artist on a mosaic mural for Worcester.
The mural, celebrating the power of community connections, brought together more than 100 artworks created by Sanctuary Care residents across the UK.
It was designed in collaboration with Malvern-based mosaic artist Victoria Harrison and revealed to the public at Friary Walk Shopping Centre on Tuesday (April 8).
The artwork depicts a beautiful garden in bloom – a staple feature in many care homes – serving as a metaphor for the growth, sense of belonging, and enrichment to be found in community connections.
Sanctuary Care spokesperson Sarah Clarke-Kuehn, said: “At Sanctuary Care, supporting our residents to live enriched lives is at the very core of what we do. Seeing our residents come together to create this striking mural has been truly inspiring. Many residents contributed an individual artwork, forming a rich tapestry of stories which we hope will serve as lasting reminder of the strength, support and belonging that community connections bring.”
Victoria Harrison of Malvern’s Living Mosaics, added: “As a mosaic artist, my inspiration has always been our special connection with nature. Our affinity with outdoor spaces evokes a therapeutic escape, offers a rich sensory input and a way to socialise with others.
“I was inspired to create the garden scene for this project as it felt like a perfect metaphor for the connections and relationships that can grow and flourish in care home communities and beyond.
“Art has an incredible power to bring people together. I’m hoping that the mural and inclusion of the residents’ artwork into the mosaic sparks conversations and connections with all who visit the exhibition.”
