A DEDICATED midwife has been honoured for her work with up and coming students in the profession.

Vicky Instan, 44, who works at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, won the Outstanding Mentor – Midwifery award at the University of Worcester’s Mentor Awards ceremony.

Mother-of-three Vicky, a qualified midwife for four years, was nominated by one of her students for providing an understanding and encouraging environment in which they thrived during their placement.

Vicky said: “I mentor midwifery students from different years of training, supporting them to become qualified midwives in the future. I love being a mentor and have such a feeling of satisfaction when they finally qualify.

“I felt quite embarrassed when I received the nomination and even more shocked when I won.”

The University’s award ceremony saw individuals and teams from across the region honoured, and Jo Rouse, head of the University’s academic unit for applied professional studies and chair of the mentor awards steering group, said it was vital their work was recognised.

“It is really fantastic the University is able to join with its practice partners to celebrate the achievements of mentors in this way,” she added.

“The mentor awards steering group received a very high number of outstanding nominations which reflects the quality of mentoring, and made the process of selecting winners a huge challenge as all of the mentors nominated were excellent.”
