Mendelssohn’s masterpiece on offer at Cathedral concert

MEMBERS of Worcester Festival Choral Society will be performing Mendelssohn’s masterwork Elijah at Worcester Cathedral.

The 150-strong choir, accompanied by the Meridian Sinfonia Symphony Orchestra, is bringing the choral favourite to the city for the first time in 16 years on Saturday, March 23.

They will be joined by acclaimed soloists soprano Susanna Andersson, from Sweden, mezzo-soprano Catherine Carby from Australia, tenor Ruairi Bowen and bass Edward Seymour from the UK.

The concert, which will be sung in English, will be conducted by the choral society’s music director Christopher Allsop.
