Memorial is a gift for organ donators

A WORCESTER memorial garden will open in memory of organ donors.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, is opening the memorial for the families of those who have donated organs tomorrow (Thursday) to support National Transplant Week from Monday (September 7) to Sunday (September 13).

The memorial, at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, will be officially opened by the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Dr Umesh Udeshi and the Mayor of Worcester, Coun Roger Knight.

Featuring the ‘gift’ from a garden designed to promote organ donation, which received a gold award at this year’s RHS Malvern Spring Festival, the memorial will offer families a space to remember their loved ones who gave life to others.

Emma Lawson, specialist nurse for organ donation said: “Telling your family that you want to donate your organs makes it easier for them to give consent when the time comes.

“This new memorial at the hospital will allow us all to reflect and remember the difficult decision these families have made, and offer them some comfort in knowing their loved ones have gone on to help others in need.”
