THE STREETS of Worcester are set to be lit up by stars and Christmas baubles when this year’s festive lights are switched on tomorrow (Thursday).
Festivities are set to begin at a fun-packed family evening on the city’s High Street, which kicks off at 4pm, with a number of musical acts lined up to kick-start the festive cheer.
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm by the Mayor of Worcester Coun Paul Denham along with his special guest Pudsey Bear outside the Guildhall.
There will also be entertainment from Worcester’s very own Robbie Williams tribute act, Blobbie Williams, as well as Worcestershire Rock Choir, local up-and-coming rock and pop duo The Fidgets and many more.
The night of festivities also signals the start of late night Christmas shopping in the city centre, with many shops opening until 8pm on Thursdays. Residents will also be able to park for free in City Council car parks after 6pm during the late night shopping period.
Coun Geoff Williams, Cabinet member for Economic Prosperity and Growth, said: “We’ve spent several months carefully choosing this year’s lights to make sure they bring the right feeling of joy and celebration to the city during the festive season.
“I think shoppers and traders will be delighted when the button is pressed on November 17 and the city takes on a lovely Christmas glow.”
