Mayor puts caring for homeless on menu

THE MAYOR of Worcester spread some Christmas joy by hosting a festive lunch at the Guildhall for 80 homeless and disadvantaged people.

Coun Paul Denham worked with the YMCA, St. Paul’s Hostel, Maggs Day Centre, CCP, Citizen’s Advice Bureau and the Food Bank to help invite guests to the event which was held on Tuesday (December 13).

The guests enjoyed a traditional Christmas lunch, with the turkey and all the trimmings paid for from the Mayor’s budget. Kristen Barone’s staff from the YMCA helped to prepare the lunch.

“At this time of year, when we are acutely aware of the homeless and disadvantaged people of Worcester – even though this is a year-round issue – it was lovely to be able to host this lunch for them at the Guildhall,” Coun Paul Denham said.

“It was a great success, and so many people said to me how much they enjoyed it.

“I was particularly pleased that for so many of them it was their first time in the Guildhall, as one of my aims as Mayor is to encourage people in who have never entered this wonderful building before.

“As chef, YMCA Catering Manager Kristen Barone did a fantastic job and I want to thank Waitrose for donating the vegetables and Christmas puddings.”
