Man sought over 'racially motivated' attack on child

A MAN who waved fake poo in the face of child outside a Worcester pub is wanted by police in what is believed to be a racially motivated incident.

The distressing incident happened between 1pm and 4pm last Saturday (July 16) as a family, with two young children, were walking past the Royal Exchange pub on Cornmarket in the city centre.

A man outside the pub then approached the family and waved plastic faeces in the women’s face before doing the same to one of the youngsters.

It’s believed the man was thrown out of the pub following the incident.

It is also thought a number of people recorded the incident on their phones and West Mercia Police is urging people to come forward as soon as possible.

The man has been described as white, in his early thirties, approximately 6ft tall and of an average build with “chubby cheeks”.

At the time of the incident he was wearing three quarter length white trousers and dark blue or navy blue shoes. He had short light brown hair and may have had some facial stubble.

Insp Gerard Smith of the Worcester Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “This was a distressing incident for this family, particularly the children, and has left them shaken.

“I want to stress that this sort of behaviour is not tolerated in Worcester or anywhere else in the West Mercia policing area.

“We are actively investigating and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to please come forward.”

Anyone who has information which will help with the investigation is urged to call police on 101 quoting incident number 547s of Saturday, July 16.

Alternatively information can be passed on anonymously by contacting independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
