A MAN has been fined by police after he was recovered from the flooded River Severn in the centre of Worcester.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours of this morning (Saturday) after passers by saw the man in the flood waters.
On arrival, police and ambulance discovered the man had been dared to go into the water by his friends.
After recovering him from the water, he was given a fine.
The incident comes despite six flood warnings for the River Severn and a further three flood alerts with Environment Agency chiefs braced for high river levels in the hours ahead.
It’s expected the Severn could peak as high as 5.1metres on Saturday afternoon with river levels remaining high throughout the weekend.
Motorists have been warned to avoid Pitchcroft car park at all costs due to the high water level and traffic management measures will be introduced on New Road from 6.30pm this evening (Saturday) in the event of further flooding.
