Lucy's looking for others to back marathon effort

A WORCESTER woman is putting her mind and body on the line in an attempt to raise much needed funds for a national children’s charity.

Lucy Sidwell, is determined to succeed in her bid to complete the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon, in order to generate funds for Caudwell Children, the national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families.

She decided to run for Caudwell Children, one of the UK’s leading children’s charities, after reading about their London Marathon charity places online.

And now she’s urging runners in Worcestershire to snap up the few remaining places that the charity has.

“I have a huge interest in sport and keeping fit and I rowed and swam for my school, university and city,” explained the former Royal Grammar School Worcester pupil.

“However, I only started running in May last year and in June I joined the Black Pear Joggers, a local running club, which I love.

“I decided that I wanted to test myself at the London Marathon, arguably the greatest marathon in the world, but I failed to secure a ballot spot so I decided to search for a charity place.

“When I discovered Caudwell Children I immediately realised that it was a fantastic charity that gives disabled children the chance to take part in activities that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to get involved with.

“If runners are desperate to run in this iconic marathon I can think of no better charity to run for, so I’d urge people to snap up one of their few remaining places to avoid disappointment.”

In preparation for the event, which takes place on April, 28, Lucy is running four to five days a week, including a local park run, racking up between 20-33 miles in the process. She also undertakes two circuit classes in the gym each week.

Lucy, who works as a Groups Benefits Support Administrator, is working tirelessly to hit her fundraising target of £2,500.

“Amongst other things I’ve organised cake sales, a World Cup sweepstake, a swimathon and completed a Half Marathon to raise funds,” explained Lucy.

Kerrie Davies, Associate Director of Events at Caudwell Children, is urging runners to snap up the limited number of remaining places the charity has for the event. She said: “This is your chance to be involved in one of the greatest sporting events on the planet.

“If it’s on your bucket list of things to do you need to register for one of our places. You will not only have a fabulous experience you’ll also be helping Caudwell Children to provide an invaluable service to disabled children across the UK.
