Loved ones remembered at special lights service

Worcester Editorial 20th Nov, 2013 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A SPECIAL service to remember loved ones saw more than 1,600 people pack into Worcester Cathedral.

The St Richard’s Hospice Lights of Love campaign, which took place last Friday (November 15), allows residents to dedicate a light to someone close to their heart.

The campaign has already seen more than 2,000 names dedicated and more than £24,000 donated to supporting the hospice’s work caring for those with life-threatening illnesses.

Both the afternoon and evening services at the Cathedral were full, and following the evening service many in the congregation walked to watch the switching on of the Lights of Love at the Christmas tree in St Andrew’s Spire.

Alison Parkes, St Richard’s Hospice senior community fund-raiser, said: “The services were very moving and appreciated by so many people.

“We are very grateful to all those who make a donation and dedicate a light in memory. The funds make a big difference to helping us care for patients and families in the future.”
