Looking for game’s biggest supporters

Worcester Editorial 15th Feb, 2017   0

A WORCESTER pub has teamed up with an England international rugby legend to find the city’s biggest rugby fan.

To coincide with the RBS 6 Nations, The Talbot, on Barbourne Road, is searching for residents who go above and beyond in support of their home nation, with the help of 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Lewis Moody and Worcester Warriors Rugby Club.

Having recently joined forces to launch the campaign, which is being run by Greene King, the winner will receive a £500 cash prize.

To enter the competition, rugby fans need to visit www.gkseasonticket.co.uk/try-hards and submit 100 words as to why they think they are England, Wales, Scotland or Ireland’s biggest fan, before Sunday, February 26.

Lewis said: “Throughout my career I’ve met some huge fans that would do anything for their team. There are the fans that never miss a game, own every replica shirt and, even fans who turn up to watch the games with their team’s badge painted on their chest.

“If you think you’ve got what it takes to be your nation’s biggest rugby fan, we want to know about it.”

Steph Hollis, general manager at The Talbot, said: “There’s always a great atmosphere in the pub during an international fixture and you always see the same locals come back time and again to support their team through the highs and lows.

“We’ve got some huge rugby fans at The Talbot, so we’re confident one of our locals can claim the title.”

Warriors scrum-half Jonny Arr added: “Rugby is renowned for its amazing fans and it’s great to see Greene King rewarding those who go above and beyond. We’d encourage as many fans as possible to take part.”
