Lizzie cooks up success after Burger Shop stint

A GOURMET burger bar based in Worcester’s Arches has become the first business to receive an Inclusive Employer Award from the City Council, after giving work experience to two young people who were struggling to get into work.

One of them, Lizzie Smith, worked at The Burger Shop for two weeks in May and has now secured a Commis Chef apprenticeship with the exclusive Cottage in the Wood Hotel in Malvern thanks to her time at the restaurant.

“The experience gave me confidence and opened my eyes. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the kitchen and realised this was where I wanted to be,” said Lizzie, who had been on benefits since leaving care.

Rupert Davidson, restaurant manager said: “This industry is fantastic and has a wide range of different opportunities and career paths yet less and less young people are getting into it.

“If we can help encourage people like Lizzie to get back into the work place, it benefits them with so many different skills sets and helps our industry thrive.”
