A SOUTH Worcestershire sports complex has won a prestigious award for its exceptional work in people management.

Freedom Leisure, which operates eight leisure centres across Worcester and Malvern on behalf of Worcester City Council and Malvern Hills District Council, recently scooped the ‘Investors In People’ award by the namesake organisation.

The company was commended for having a strong senior management team and well embedded processes, which have enabled the business to successfully grow.

It was also recognised as a highly aspirational company with a great deal of passion for making leisure accessible and available to the community.

Lee Thomas, Freedom Leisure area manager for Worcester, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been awarded this fantastic accolade and to have our commitment to our staff recognised.

“At a time when we’ve had huge growth as an organisation, we’re fully committed to developing every aspect of our business, including ensuring every member of staff is valued and supported.”

Coun Jabba Riaz, Worcester City Council’s portfolio holder for clean, green and leisure services, said: “I’m delighted to hear Freedom Leisure has been awarded Investors In People status.

“Some great City Council staff moved over to Freedom when they took over management of our sports centres, so it’s good to know those employees are in safe hands.”

Coun Philip Grove, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Having seen significant capital investment into our leisure facilities over the past 18 months, this accreditation is a superb testament to Freedom Leisure’s commitment to developing and supporting its workforce.”
