KEPAX Bridge in Worcester has won a National RIBA Award.
The award is one of the UK’s most prestigious honours for architecture and recognises buildings and infrastructure projects that demonstrate excellence in design, innovation and public benefit.
The judges praised the distinctive bridge, saying the hockey-stick-shaped scheme showed how infrastructure projects could “inspire delight, enhance place, and support long-term environmental and social objectives”.
The national accolade builds on the project’s earlier success at the RIBA West Midlands Awards, where Kepax Bridge was named Building of the Year and received a RIBA Regional Award.
Coun Tom Wells, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Winning a RIBA National Award is a fantastic achievement and a proud moment for Worcestershire. It is particularly significant because it is relatively unusual for a bridge project to receive this level of recognition, with the awards traditionally focused on buildings.”
The award recognises the bridge’s outstanding design, engineering excellence and contribution to the local community, highlighting the successful collaboration between Worcestershire County Council, the project’s design team, architects and contractors.
Opened in December 2024, Kepax Bridge is designed to encourage healthier, more active travel and improve connectivity across Worcester for generations to come.
Since opening, the bridge has become a well-used and valued part of Worcester’s transport network, recording more than 500,000 trips by pedestrians, cyclists and wheeled users.
