WORCESTERSHIRE Cricket have secured funding through Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire to launch five new Walking Cricket hubs in the New Year, including a fortnightly session which works with a local memories group and will be supported by coaches who are dementia friends.
A slower paced version of the sport, Walking Cricket delivers skills to players of all ages and abilities.
Elsa-Marie Evans, Club and Community Development Officer at Worcestershire Cricket, said: “This format provides an exciting way to keep fit and active for those may not have played for a while, may have had injuries that have stopped them playing or are completely new to the game.
“Whether you’re batting, bowling, or fielding, Walking Cricket is a great form of cardio exercise and also helps to improve hand-eye coordination and flexibility.”
Sessions will be held at two venues in Worcester and in Evesham
Weekly sessions start at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Bilford Road, on Friday, January 14 from 2pm to 3pm.
Fortnightly sessions will begin at Riverside Activity Hall on University of Worcester’s Severn Campus on Thursday, January 13 from 10am to 11.30am.
Memories Walking Cricket runs fortnightly at Riverside Activity Hall from Thursday, January 20 between 10am and 11.30am and sessions will be supported by coaches who are dementia friends.
In Evesham, weekly sessions will run at Wallace House Community Centre in Oat Street between 2pm and 3pm from Tuesday, January 11.
At all five hubs, sessions are turn up and play, there is no need to book and the first session is free. The cost per week or fortnight after that is £3.
