Inventive model makers reach for the stars

HUNDREDS flocked to a special event at The Hive to learn about all things space.

Visitors dressed up as aliens, met rocket scientists, tried out powerful telescopes and were entertained by the Mad Science team.

Run in partnership with The West Midlands Interplanetary Society, the city library event brought together a mix of enthusiastic scientists from local organisations, schools and colleges each contributing to the evening’s programme of talks and demonstrations with hands-on activities.

Library manager Janine Downes said: “The evening was really popular. We had lots of adults and children as there was plenty for ages to take part in, and there was a great atmosphere with a real buzz of energy and enthusiasm all evening”.

Winners of the model spaceship competition included four-year-old Lucas, eight-year-old Indie Lammie and 14-year-old Kristian Salas, who received prizes of rockets, stickers, books and posters donated by the Interplanetary Society and European Space Agency.
