In the running for family fun

Worcester Editorial 9th May, 2018   0

RUNNERS from across the county are on their marks and getting set for the popular annual Crowle Gunpowder Plot 10k and two family fun runs.

The event on Sunday, is being staged for the 16th time and will have an earlier start time of 11am for the 10k race.

Organisers are ready to accept large numbers of entries on the day too and hope to emulate the near-900 runners who put their best foot forward for last year’s event and raised more than £7,000 for local causes.

Caroline Brookes, event co-organiser, said the Crowle 10k has become a date in may running clubs’ diaries, including the Black Pear Joggers, Worcester Athletic Club, Amazing Feet Joggers, Pershore Plum Plodders, Evesham Vale RC, Birchfield Harriers, Tipton Harriers and Malvern Joggers.

“The event has a reputation for being a well organised, family event that has something for everyone,” she said.

“Each year we attract elite runners, club runners and fun runners from locally and much further afield and they bring their children too, who can take part in the fun runs on the village playing field and enjoy the playground.

The 10k will follow the same scenic, rural route as in previous years, starting and finishing on the playing field in Crowle.

The run will once again be held under Athletic Association rules and time-tracking chips allocated to all 10k runners will record their times.

The two fun runs will take place before the 10k – a quarter mile for young children at 10.10am and their adult helpers and a more serious, timed, one-mile race for under-16s at 10.25am

All fun run finishers will be awarded a prize and in each run a trophy for the first three boys and first three girls will be presented.

Both of the fun runs will take place on a circuit around the village playing field.

A barbecue (including vegetarian), cakes, hot and cold drinks and a bouncy castle will also be available on the day and runners can register or pick up their numbers and timing chips from 9.30am on May 8.
