THOUSANDS of runners once again took to the streets of Worcester as the annual City Runs event returned for 2022.
Around 2,500 took part in the two-day festival of running which included Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track and the ever-popular Worcester City Half Marathon, 10K and Young Athletes Run.
Many more local residents turned out to cheer on the runners in the celebration organised by Worcester City Council and Events of the North.
Families on Track kicked off the weekend, with groups teaming up to complete a 10K distance in a continuous relay on laps of either 1,000 metres, 500 metres or 250 metres at Worcester Racecourse.
Event founder Paula Radcliffe took part herself, in a team with her children and competition winners, joining hundreds of others to enjoy the experience.
The annual Wor-cester City Half Marathon, 10K and Young Athletes Run attracted leading club athletes from the area and a large number of fun runners, including many who were raising money for good causes, such as the event’s official charity partner, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.
Mayor of Worcester, Coun Adrian Gregson, tackled the 10K to support two charities, Severn Arts and Onside Advocacy.
Alex Lawrence won the half marathon in a time of 66 minutes and 45 seconds while the women’s race was won by Katie Telford in 87 minutes 19 seconds.
The 10K was won by Kadar Omar of Birchfield Harriers in 30 minutes 58 second while Gemma Tutton of Swansea Harriers won the women’s 10K in 38 minutes 11 seconds.
Event founder Steve Cram said: “Every year, the atmosphere at Worcester is fantastic. It was brilliant to see so many runners of all ages and abilities enjoying themselves throughout the weekend.
“As ever, it was excellent to witness so many people using the event to raise money for good causes, once again cheered on all the way by big crowds.
“The changes that we made to the half marathon route were well received by both runners and spectators, and were a great showcase for the city centre.”
