THESE images show what the city’s new £10.4million swimming pool could look like if plans are given the go ahead later this year.
A planning application has now been submitted to Worcester City Council which detail the design of the eight-lane, 25 metre pool at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.
Councillors previously gave outline planning permission for a pool to be built along with a 415 space car park on the site off Bilford Road in October 2013.
But now members of the city’s planning committee will have the chance to voice their views on the look of the prosposed development before voting.
If it is given the go ahead, the scheme could see the existing leisure centre extended to accommodate the pool and seating for 250 spectators.
The project would also include the creation of a 18m x 10m learner pool with a movable floor to allow it to be transformed into a fun pool for youngsters.
The existing sport hall at Perdiswell Leisure Centre would also be refurbished once the new pool is completed, while a gym, a café and a spectator area would be created.
Coun David Wilkinson, cabinet member Safer & Stronger Communities for Worcester City Council, said: “I am very pleased with the progress of this application.
“The new swimming pool is progressing on time and to budget. I am very much looking forward to when the construction starts and when it is up and running it will give Worcester the facility that it deserves.”
As we previously reported, more than 100 people attended a public consultation event on January, 28, with Richard Savory, project manager, describing the feedback as “overwhelmingly positive”.
