Halloween fun for half-term visitors

Worcester Editorial 20th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTER families are in for a treat this Halloween with the launch of fiendish and fun half-term activities across the city.

Museums Worcestershire’s Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum and The Commandery will host an array of hauntingly spectacular events from Saturday, October 22 to Monday, October 31.

The Art Gallery and Museum is inviting youngsters to take part in the global ‘Big Draw’, which is the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. This year’s theme celebrates science, technology, engineering, arts and maths.

In preparation for Halloween, children can visit the gallery on Monday, October 24 between 11am to 3pm to create pocket-sized black rats and life-size skull masks.

Throughout half-term, visitors can also explore objects including dinosaur footprints, a baby polar bear and the gallery’s famous sturgeon.

At The Commandery, spooky Worcestershire stories and make-and-take crafts will run from Tuesday, October 25 to Friday, October 28 from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 3pm each day.

On Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30, The Commandery rolls back the clock to the eerie 17th century, where visitors will be able to prepare potions, make a magical ‘poppet’ doll and discover witch-markings.

There are also ghost walks after dark to explore the historic building on Saturday, October 29 at 7pm.

On Monday, October 31, the Friends of Fort Royal Park are hosting a fancy dress cat-walk from 5pm to 6pm and a treasure hunt from 5pm to 6.45pm at The Commandery.

Charlie Fothergill, marketing officer at The Commandery, said: “Where better to experience Halloween than at one of Worcester’s oldest buildings. With so many events at The Commandery and the Art Gallery and Museum, families can enjoy some unique activities this half-term that won’t cost the earth.”
