A RALLYING call has gone out to Worcester residents to recycle their Christmas tree and go green for 2019.
Trees can be taken to one of the household waste recycling centres operated by Worcestershire County Council, arrange for it to be collected by St Richard’s Hospice or residents can use theur brown garden waste bin, if they have one.
Homeowners can deposit their tress in skips at the household waste recycling centre on Bilford Roadfrom 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
A further skip will be provided at the centre on Hallow Road from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
Anyone wishing to recycle their tree is asked to allow around 15 minutes’ before closing time to put their ree in the skip provided and reminded to remove all decorations.
Alternatively residents who have signed up to the City Council’s brown bin waste service can use this method to dispose of their Christmas tree when collections resume in March.
Sue Horrobin, head of environmental services at Worcester City Council, said: “Christmas tree recycling is one of our great success stories, with more and more residents using now using the facilities at Bilford Road and Hallow Road each year.
“Of course if householders own a shredder they can chip their own trees – chippings make a great weed suppressant if they are spread thickly.”
Residents can also use the fundraising scheme launched by St Richard’s Hospice.
Thanks to volunteers, the charity will collect and recycle Worcester residents’ trees in exchange for a donation to support its free care to patients and loved ones.
