Giant birthday card made in honour of NHS

NHS ACTIVISTS from across the UK held events to mark its 69th birthday.

Last Wednesday, campaigners used the occasion to highlight how important the service is to the public.

In Worcester, a giant birthday card was commissioned by IONHS (It’s Our NHS), and was signed by hundreds of local residents.

The giant card was presented by retired GP and local health campaigner Dr Sylvia Chandler-Melville to a member of the communications team for the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

In a short presentation speech, Dr Chandler-Melville quoted the words of Harry Smith: “The NHS is for me as great as Magna Carta because it freed millions from the tyranny of sickness and poverty to move forward and lead productive lives.

“It is why today we ordinary citizens must be vigilant against governments and corporate interests that seek to dilute the NHS’ ability to deliver health care to all its citizens through privatisation.”
