A POPULAR Worcester theatre school is on the hunt for the next generation of theatre professionals to join its one-year foundation course which starts this autumn.
Taught by theatre professionals within a working theatre, the part-time Swan Theatre School course takes place over three terms and is ideal for those who want to go on to drama school, freshen up existing skills or enter the industry directly.
Students study all areas of performance, as well as getting an insight into the business side of the industry. Modules include acting, movement and voice classes, film and television techniques, and an introduction to children’s theatre and pantomime – two of the industry’s biggest employers.
“Many of our previous students are now working within the industry,” said Swan Theatre School principal Jonathan Legg.
“The beauty of this one-year course is that it’s part-time in the evenings, providing first-rate affordable training which fits alongside students’ other commitments. Our students come from all walks of life, from those just starting out, to people who already have an established background in amateur dramatics.
“Even if you’re working full-time, a busy parent, or a student elsewhere, you can still pursue your goal of becoming a professional actor.”
Former student Sammy O’Byrne said: “The tutors are the most patient, kind and encouraging people I’ve ever worked with.
“They are meticulous in their detail and training but they want the best for all their students as a group and individually, which leads to an intensely lovely atmosphere. I have never laughed so much in my life – or felt so capable of doing everything I want to do. They built me up to be able to attend National Youth Theatre 2017 and to direct my first shows in London. You’re in the best hands! Have fun and own it!”
