Funding boost for festival

Worcester Editorial 2nd Mar, 2019   0

A SUMMER city festival is celebrating after being handed £48,000 to fund a weekend-long children arts festival in July.

The Big Dreamers Festival, which launched last year with a pilot at The Hive and at community centres around Worcester, has received the cash from Arts Council England.

The money will go towards bringing children’s art to The Hive during the summer holidays, alongside a weekend of outdoor arts in Cathedral Square.

A festival spokesperson said: “Investment from Arts Council England will allow us to work with children across the city from now until July and children will have the opportunity to co-produce elements of the festival, deciding what sort of art they want to see in their city.”

The event will run from July 22 to 27.

Current confirmed shows include Crabby; a show about a little crab with a snappy disposition, which won the ‘Best Children and Family Show’ award at the International Children’s Art Festival last year and Frantic, an internationally touring acrobatic show.

The full programme will be released in March.
