Fund will help disadvantaged women and girls

Worcester Editorial 23rd Sep, 2018   0

A COUNTYWIDE Tampon Tax Community Fund has been launched in Worcestershire to help disadvantaged women and girls across Worcestershire.

Working in partnership with similar organisations in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, the Worcestershire Community Foundation is inviting applications from community groups and charities to deliver projects that support women and girls to build skills and confidence, improve their health and wellbeing, and build social networks.

A key focus will be funding preventative work to reduce the risk of crisis at different life stages. This may be by helping women and girls get into or back to work, raising awareness about health issues, or by creating and developing peer networks.

Working with Community First in Malvern, Worcestershire Community Foundation will be administering grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 for all three counties.

Applications are open now and close on November 5.

Further information and how to apply is available at www.worcscf.org.uk/applygrants.aspx.

The Tampon Tax Fund allocates funds generated from the VAT on sanitary products to projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls.

The money comes from a grant of £3.4million which was awarded to membership body UK Community Foundations in March.

In all 46 Community Foundations will work with local charities and community groups to deliver the Tampon Tax Community Fund in their local areas.

Lucy Wells, development director at Worcestershire Community Foundation said: “Through this fund we will be able to make a huge difference to the lives of women and girls across the three counties.

“This in turn will also have a positive effect on families and the wider community.”
