Free summer flicks are a winner

HUNDREDS of Worcester shoppers headed to Crowngate Shopping Centre during the summer to enjoy their favourite flicks at its Summer Cinema.

Between August 9 and September 2, the city’s shopping centre hosted free film screenings every day including Finding Nemo, Mamma Mia, The Greatest Showman, Casablanca, The Incredibles and Paddington, to name just a few.

Not only could movie-lovers enjoy some of the best blockbusters, they also had the chance to go head-to-head on Crowngate’s ping pong tables as well as receive a variety of food and drinks vouchers from Bill’s, Wildwood and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.

Mike Lloyd, centre manager at Crowngate Shopping Centre, said: “We are pleased more than 900 people came along to enjoy the fun.

“This is the first time we’ve organised something like this at the centre, so we’re delighted it was such a success.

“We opened the cinema with showings of Monsters Inc and The Wizard of Oz during August 9 and The Notebook for the evening, alfresco diners. The screenings were massively popular and showed what was to come throughout the summer.

“During various films throughout Wednesdays and Sundays we had special ‘silent’ screenings with headphones, which were also autism-friendly to ensure everyone could have a great time at the Summer Cinema,” Mike said.
