Four penalty charges in Blue Badge crackdown

COUNCIL officers have completed a week long crackdown on Blue Badge cheats throughout the city centre.

Worcester City Council inspected 108 disabled persons’ Blue Badges displayed by drivers parked in disabled bays in; st Swithin’s Street, Queen Street, The Cross, The Trinity, The Cornmarket, New Street and Charles Street from Monday (September 1) until Sunday (September 6).

The civil enforcement officers issued four penalty charge notices and two of the badges were found to be out of date.

Andy Chinn, parking manager for Worcester City Council, said: “This concentrated week-long focus on the use of Blue Badges has been very successful.

“We have received overwhelming support from the public and in just one week, a total of six badges were seized that were not being used lawfully.

“Blue Badge misuse remains a priority for Worcester City Council and we remain committed to ensuring that genuine Blue Badge users may park in the bays located in the heart of our city.”

There is an estimated three million badges issued in England and Wales and about 10,000 are used in Worcestershire. The demand for disabled parking bays is high and so the misuse of a Blue Badge can result in a £1,000 fine and the withdrawal of the badge.
