Fashion and fun are the winners on sun-blessed day

WELL-DRESSED guests flocked in their hundreds and enjoyed a fantastic day at the races while helping raise nearly £25,000 for St Richard’s Hospice.

A sun-drenched Worcester Racecourse bloomed with colourful dresses and eye-catching hats for the annual CrownGate Ladies’ Day on Saturday.

St Richard’s Hospice hosted a marquee which was packed with 230 guests who enjoyed a delicious three-course meal, race card top tips, afternoon tea and a grand auction conducted by hospice patron and TV favourite Philip Serrell.

The auction, raffle and money collected by hospice volunteers helped to raise almost £25,000 for vital patient care – the most ever raised for St Richard’s at a Ladies’ Day event in its 15-year history.

A cheque for £3,000 was presented to the hospice by the Reuben Foundation on the day.

Alison Parkes, fundr-aiser at St Richard’s, said: “Thanks to the outstanding generosity of the guests, we are thrilled to announce a record amount was raised to help support St Richard’s vital care.

“£25,000 could fund our Day Hospice for two-and-a-half weeks, providing specialist care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses.

“We are hugely grateful to all the people who made such a fantastic effort and came to enjoy Ladies’ Day – everyone looked amazing. We had so much fun and the weather was kind to us too.

“A big thank you to Worcester Racecourse, our sponsors Close Brothers Asset Management, goodie bags from CrownGate Shopping Centre and the hundreds of fabulous guests for making Ladies’ Day a really special fixture in the event calendar.”

Guests from Worcestershire and beyond enjoyed the chance to have a flutter on one of the seven horse races available on the day.

Among the race-goers was Deborah Grogan who won the Racecourse’s CrownGate County Enclosure Queen competition, with Gill Carpenter coming in runner up and Valerie Goodwin taking third place.

The hospice has worked with Worcester Racecourse to organise Ladies’ Day for 15 years – and, since its beginnings, the event has grown in success.
