Extra cash will help local firms

Worcester Editorial 29th May, 2020   0

INNOVATION in Worcestershire is set to get a £2.4million boost after EU funding was secured to support businesses in the county.

The Worcestershire Innovation (WINN) programme provides businesses with bespoke expert advice to help them compete in both new national and international markets.

The move will give companies the chance to join forces with universities, the country’s innovation agency Innovate UK and its Catapult Centres which promote research and development through collaboration with scientists and engineers.

The extra cash – provided by the European Regional Development Fund – brings the scheme’s total funding to £7.5million.

WINN, led by Worcestershire County Council in partnership with Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership helps local businesses access funding, generate ideas and provides assistance to support infrastructure.

Dr Ken Pollock, the County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: “The scheme provides Worcestershire businesses with fantastic support and this financial boost will allow even more organisations to receive our help.”

Economic growth and investment manager Sue Crow added: “The WINN project has already made a huge impact on the companies it has supported, helping businesses to grow and develop.

“This new announcement is great news, particularly in the testing times we’re all currently experiencing, continuing to support innovation in the local economy remains important.

“This new funding will enable us to provide the support companies need to diversify, introduce new products and processes, access expert advice and obtain grant support.”

WINN has a growing community of 1,200 businesses and innovators which will receive help in increasing their knowledge, sharing ideas and using resources to maximise their market potential.
