A RUSHWICK primary school will be opening its doors to more youngsters thanks to a new extension.
The expansion of Rushwick CE Primary School is being overseen by Worcester-based Place Partnership, on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.
Three new classrooms, a library, office accommodation as well as a wildlife pond, solar panels and a larger playground will all form part of the expansed Upper Wick Lane site.
As a result of the expansion, the school will increase from 20 children in a year group to 30.
Headteacher Geoff Jeffrey, said: “Having more than £1.1m invested at Rushwick Primary School in the current financial climate is a major coup for the school and a testament to the hard work of our staff and pupils.
“The new facilities will provide fantastic accommodation and will mean that our school will be able to take more pupils in the near future.
The extension, funded by Worcestershire County Council, will see the first phase completed during the summer break and the final stage during autumn.
Project manager Mike Griffin from Place Partnership, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the school so that they are provided with accommodation and facilities which will benefit the local community for many years to come.”
Marcus Hart, county council cabinet member with responsibility for Education and Skills, said: “The new facilities will provide a wonderful increase in space both for teaching and extra-curricular activities, and a 50 per cent increase in pupil capacity.
“This will cater for increased demand for school places as a result of nearby housing growth, and ensure that local children have access to the best possible education.”
