DANCE, music, great flavours and more are set to get residents in the mood for Eurovision in Worcester.
The Guildhall will host a celebration of European cultures on Saturday May 17 from 11am to 3pm – the same day as the Eurovision Song Contest final.
Euro-Worcester, organised by Worcester City Council, promises something for everyone – from food tasting and heritage displays to crafts for children, language games, and live performances celebrating countries and cultures across the continent.
Coun Jabba Riaz, chair of Worcester City Council’s communities committee, said: “Last year we ran Eurofest at the Guildhall, and now we hope to build on the resounding success of that popular event.
“This year’s Euro-Worcester on May 17 will boast fun and entertainment for all the family, as well as giving communities across our city the chance to showcase their culture and learn more about others.
“Exploring a variety of traditions and cultures improves our understanding and helps us appreciate the diverse groups that live in Worcester – and it’s also the perfect way to get in the mood for the Eurovision Song Contest later the same day.”
The Irish, Bulgarian, and Breton dance groups are all returning from the 2024 event. Ukrainian school children will be performing traditional songs and dances, while opera singer Valerie Sherlock will be taking to the stage with her choir.
House of Haby will host a stall showcasing Italian yarns and a heartfelt display of photos and memories from Worcester’s own ‘Little Italy’.
Homemade Ukrainian dishes, handmade dolls, and aromatherapy oils will also be available to sample and buy, and tasters will be on offer from the popular Our Taste of Portugal cafe.
The Worcester Language Exchange and Twinning Association will be on hand with interactive activities and cultural insights, and a mental health and welfare booth will offer support and resources for children, families, and adults alike.
Meanwhile, the city council will be holding a display about Worcester’s rich cultural history.
