End in sight for New Road flood alleviation works

Rob George 3rd May, 2018   0

LANE closures which have been in place to support works to reduce the impact of flooding onNew Road are coming to an end, county transport chiefs have revealed

Three upcoming overnight closures of New Road will mark the final phase of roadworks and the end of major disruption along the route.

New Road will be completely closed to vehicles from 8pm to 6am each night on May 14 to 16 for final resurfacing and white lining of the road.

During the overnight closures, there will be a diversion route in place via Bath Road and the Carrington Bridge.

Footpaths will then be resurfaced overnight on May 17 and May 18 though New Road is expected to be open during the work.

Pedestrian and cycle access will be unaffected at all times and there will be no disruption to traffic heading from St Johns towards the city centre.

The completion date for the road works will be less than a week later than planned, due to poor weather conditions over the last four months and other unforeseen issues.

Throughout this last period of roadworks, and for a short period of time after, the right-turn from Hylton Road into New Road will remain closed. This will allow ongoing works to continue, creating a better pedestrian access into Cripplegate Park.

Works on the flood scheme will continue within Cripplegate Park without any disruption to traffic
