Don't delay in seeking health help

Worcester Editorial 28th Aug, 2020   0

LOCAL doctors are reminding people that all practices are operating and not to delay seeking medical help if they have health concerns.

Dr Carl Ellson, Medical Director for NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG said: “Patients should continue to contact their own GP surgery as usual with any medical need.

“Safe systems are in place for assessing patients, and to minimise the risk of delays in diagnosis and management, it is important that patients do not postpone contacting their GP practice.

“We are operating a little differently now, and things may take slightly longer in order to continue to manage the ongoing risk of coronavirus but we are very much here for our patients. We ask that people telephone us first if they have a concern or access us through your practice website.”

Once you contact your practice, they will then determine the best way to provide the treatment or advice you need.

He added: “This might be a telephone or virtual consultation using video or online technology to advise and treat patients who do not require a face to face appointment.

“If a face to face appointment is deemed necessary by your medical professional, your practice will tell you want to expect when you attend.

“Our practices have robust safety measures in place to ensure that social distancing is maintained, for example there are no busy waiting areas, and that correct PPE is worn and proper cleaning processes are in place in between patients”.

People are reminded also that help is available over the Bank Holiday weekend by contacting NHS 111, your local pharmacy and ringing 999 in an emergency. Follow this link for Bank Holiday pharmacy opening times.
