Dig deep for community shop

INVESTORS are being urged to put their money where their mouth is as plans to open a community-owned shop in Lower Broadheath gather pace.

The team behind the village’s new community shop say they have been encouraged by the response to their official share sale which launched in mid-May.

About £20,000 was pledged by people across the village and other areas ahead of the share launch.

While half of the shares have already been snapped up there is a long way to go with a total target of £25,000 to be raised through share sales before the end of June.

“We are really encouraged by the response since the share launch,” said committee chairman Mark Glossop.

“However, we now need to convert the initial pledges to money and we need to get more people on board, so anyone who would like to support the project should get in touch.”

Secretary Rachel Tedesco added: “Becoming a shareholder is quick and easy.

“Shares cost only £10 each and anyone over the age of 16 can invest in this community shop which will provide a village hub as well as an essential amenity for residents of all ages.”

The shop is set to open later this year after planning permission was granted by Malvern Hills District Council for a site near The Bell Inn, where the committee hopes to place a 40ft cabin once enough money has been raised.

As well as providing groceries and everyday essentials alongside a range of products, the shop aims to offer a range of Post Office services.

Members of the committee will be on hand in Lower Broadheath Village Hall on Saturday, June 23 to answer questions and to help with filling out application forms.
