Defective tyre discovered on HGV after driver was spotted texting at the wheel

Worcester Editorial 27th Jun, 2022   0

A HGV driver who was seen texting while driving in Worcestershire has been reported as part of Operation Tramline.

The articulated HGV was initially stopped by officers from West Mercia Police’s Operations Patrol Unit (OPU) after the driver was spotted using his mobile phone behind the wheel.

However an inspection of the trailer revealed the lorry had a defective tyre (pictured) with damage so bad the tyre cord was exposed.

As a result the vehicle has been taken off the road and the driver has been reported for the offences.

Operation Tramline sees officers using a specialised HGV to identify people committing driving offences across the force’s road network.

Drivers breaking the law will then be stopped and dealt with by other police vehicles.
