A RECORD number of runners from all corners of the country descended on Crowle to take part in the popular 10k road race.

Sunday’s (May 11) event, now in its twelfth year, attracted 639 people and another 157 young runners took part in the two fun runs held beforehand around Crowle’s playing field.

Proceeds from the day are still being totted up, but are likely to top £7,000, which will go towards a wide range of causes to improve social, educational and sporting activities in the village.

First home for the men was Birchfield Harriers, Yousef Allathaa, and team mate, Sian Khan, was first home in the women’s section.

Michael Morley (Birchfield Harriers) won the 40 plus veteran age category, Robin Kindersley from Stratford C was first home in the 50 plus age group and the 60 plus bracket was won by Derek Jackson from Black Pear Joggers.

Rachel Hatfield took gold in the veteran women (35 plus) category, Michelle Roberts won the 45 plus age group and the 50 plus veteran race was won by Sandra Lane from Worcester Athletic Club.

Caroline Brookes, co-organiser of the event with Ali McIndoe, said: “We are delighted with the turn out for the 10k and fun runs and many thanks to everyone who supported the event.

“Some 80 residents of Crowle come together each year to make it happen and we are very grateful also for all the sponsors who provide gifts and donations.”

Complete results of the 10k race are now available on the village website – www.crowle-online.co.uk.
