Cricket club boosted by homebuilder donation

Worcester Editorial 16th May, 2020   0

A COMMUNITY cricket club near Worcester has received funding from a regional housebuilder to contribute towards a new piece of coaching equipment.

Rushwick Cricket Club has been handed £1,000 by Persimmon Homes South Midlands through its Community Champions scheme. Each month the housebuilder donates up to £1,000 each to two groups or individuals.

The popular, family-orientated cricket club, which is a Worcestershire Cricket Board ‘Focus Club’, has more than 150 playing members of which around 100 are boys and girls aged from five to 18.

The club, founded in 1927, used to hold regular club nights and social events to raise valuable funds for infrastructure improvements. Now it is setting its sights on the future and wants to buy a new ‘Bola Professional Bowling Machine’, which it plans to use in conjunction with its practice-nets facility to coach players of all ages and abilities.

David Bryant, Rushwick Cricket Club President, said: “The club plays an important part in the life of the community and, as our numbers grow, we are continually looking to make improvements that will benefit everyone. Recently, we’ve built a new car park and patio area, installed a modern kitchen and extended electricity right around the ground.

“Purchasing a top-quality bowling machine will also enable our coaches to provide top-quality, intensive batting practice to all players once things are able to return to normal, so we’re very thankful to Persimmon Homes.”
