A CITY bride was inspired by one of the county’s most famous exports when planning her asparagus themed wedding.

Anne-Marie Darroch walked down the aisle at Laughern Hill in Wichenford to marry Paul Harley on Saturday (April 19) with a bouquet made of asparagus.

The buttonholes for the wedding party and the bridesmaids’ bouquets were also been themed around the vegetable.

Anne-Marie, a communications manager who lives in Worcester, told the Observer: “I wrote a lot of stories which featured asparagus which is how I discovered the first day of the season was on my birthday, April 23. So as I have an April wedding I wanted to include the stems in my bouquet.

“When I visited Beautiful Flowers in Worcester, the florist she seemed excited by the idea and the theme just developed from there.

“The asparagus I had for my bouquet – and buttonholes – is from Birlingham and was literally in the ground a few days ago!”

The couple – who jet off on honeymoon to South America in time for Anne-Marie’s 40th birthday tomorrow (Wednesday) – also expanded the green theme throughout the whole day, as well as adding in splashes of yellow to mark Primrose Day which fell on the same day as their wedding.

Guests were also be joined by asparamancer Jemima Packington and there were a number of asparagus-related surprises through the day.
