County medical education team is facing review

Worcester Editorial 6th Feb, 2020   0

A REVIEW is to be held into the county’s Medical Education Team (MET) in a bid to offer a high quality of service – alongside resource and cost implications.

The MET provides a service for children who are unable to attend school due to medical difficulties.

This is currently offered at three bases in the county, Kidderminster, Worcester and Redditch, and in some cases is provided through home tuition.

The review will be carried out by the County Council’s Worcestershire Children First service the authority’s newly formed company for Children’s Services, however it is sure to start alarm bells ringing for service users.

Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Education and Skills said: “The purpose of the review is to identify improvements to the current service that we provide for children and young people in Worcestershire who are unable to attend school because of their medical needs.

“We will work with parents and carers, young people, teaching staff, schools and medical professionals to make sure we understand what works and what needs to change.

“We will not be making any changes that disrupt the teaching and learning of pupils during the Spring and Summer terms, particularly those in Year 11 who are preparing for and sitting GCSE examinations.”

The review and its recommendations will be considered by the county’s all-powerful Cabinet in June.
