County holiday activities programme celebrated at event

Worcester Editorial 19th Nov, 2023   0

THE ENRICHING activities held for children across Worcestershire as part of the county’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme were celebrated at a special event.

Ready Steady Worcestershire runs the scheme aimed at enabling children and young people in receipt of benefits-related free school meals to attend school holiday activities and experiences during Easter, summer and Christmas.

During the event at The Hive. there were presentations from several providers, including Severn Arts, Confi Kids, Active Discovery Camps and PAL Fitness which shared their successes and future plans for the HAF programme.

These highlighted the incredible providers involved and the wide range of activities they offer to children across the county.

During the summer alone, 68 providers delivered activities, creating 20,758 available places for eligible families.

Coun Steve Mackay, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for children and families, said: “I was delighted to have been invited to this year’s HAF celebration.

“It was encouraging to hear feedback and that 92 per cent from a survey of 455 parents said the HAF programme was ‘very important’ or ‘important’ to their family.

“I would like to thank all the providers for their hard work to deliver such a diverse, inclusive and fun range of activities for children and young people to attend across the county.”

The HAF programme is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and is for children who receive free school meals and other young people who may benefit.
