WORCESTERSHIRE has received a £3.9million boost to help vulnerable people this winter.

Residents struggling with fuel bills will be able to access the new fund.

Following a recent Government announcement, a new Household Support Fund has been made available to those most in need this winter and through until the end of March 2022.

Those eligible for support will be able to access assistance with food and other essentials through Here2Help, as well as get help with their bills through Act On Energy which is working on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.

Coun Matt Dormer, cabinet member with responsibility for communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “This funding will make a real difference to those in our community who are in need of extra support this winter.

“As energy bills are rising, it can be a worrying time for families that may already be struggling.

“The Household Support Fund will help alleviate some of those worries and support vulnerable people this winter time.”

A portion of the £3.9million has also been ring-fenced to support those eligible for free school meals.

This will be coordinated through schools and those children receiving free meals will receive equivalent support during the school holidays.
