County businesses make green pledge at net zero event

WORCESTERSHIRE businesses have pledged to identify strategies to make their companies greener following a major net zero event hosted by Harriett Baldwin MP.

Malvern’s MP gathered a group of major county employers to hear the Government’s plans to get businesses working towards net zero at Morgan Motors’ newly refurbished visitor centre, last week.

The discussion was led by Andrew Griffith MP who is the UK’s net zero business champion and Morgan’s chief executive Steve Morris outlined his latest plans to make greener vehicles and adopt more environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.

Companies also heard presentations from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, which outlined its green growth plans, and a discussion about how to get more electric vehicles on the roads, led by former MP Margot James, who now heads up the Warwickshire Manufacturing Group.

“Over the last six months I have been carrying out a series of meetings with West Worcestershire people and businesses to hear their thoughts on how we can get to deliver on our important net zero targets,” Mrs Baldwin said.

“One of the easier tactics is to encourage more people to get an electric or hybrid car and my event featured three experts from this field who briefed the audience on the challenges of getting more people into green vehicles, and what we must do to improve the charger network.

“Many of the attendees were able to share their own experiences and viewpoints and I will be sharing their thoughts as I write to Alok Sharma MP, who is the President of the COP26 climate change conference which will be held in Glasgow later this year.

“Getting to net zero is a critical challenge for us all and I found it really useful to get so many business brains in the same room to discuss the issue and pledge together to do much more.”
